One of the most important archaeological discoveries at the end of the 19th century from the time of Old Croatian history happened by accident. Namely, at the Island, after the old church burned down in 1875, a new, modern one was built in its place in 1880. When the foundations for the bell tower began to be excavated in 1898, the remains of the old walls were discovered, which automatically attracted the attention of the then director of the Archaeological Museum in Split, priest Frane Bulić, who began more detailed research. Soon, on August 28, 1898, in the lobby of the discovered church of St. Stephen, fragments of the inscription with the letters ‘HEL’ were excavated. Bulić noticed that it was the front side of the sarcophagus (broken into ninety pieces) which was completely filled with text. After careful analysis, collection and joining of the stone parts of the fragments, he was able to read the entire damaged tomb inscription with a clearly visible year 976.
On Our Lady's Island, a three-nave church of St. Stephen was built in the 10th century, with the atrium which was the mausoleum of Croatian kings. In its remains, in 1898, a broken sarcophagus with the tombstone inscription of Queen Jelena the Great was found.
Klis is a settlement and municipality in the Split hinterland. It was built at the foot of a medieval fortress. The name is derived from the word klisura (gorge) on which the fortress was built. It was the first Croatian capital, and the royal capital during the Trpimirović dynasty.
Klis, as a hill around which the settlement of the same name has been developed, is best known for its fortress, which is one of the symbols of the Croatian resistance at the time of the Ottoman invasion. Observed from Split, the top of Klis acts as a cliff with Kozjak on its western side and Mosor on its eastern side. At the same time, it represented a pass that connected Split with the hinterland that is Zagora. It still has this role today, because the old and new roads from Split to the north pass through it, regarding the connection to the new highway. Klis is located about 5 km from Split.
In the 9th century, Klis was the seat of Croatian dukes and kings, that is, the Croatian capital at the time. Later it belonged to various Croatian feudal lords. Due to its prominent position, it was a difficult fortress to conquer for a long time. Medieval Klis was the seat of the Uskoks, Croatian fighters against the Ottoman and Venetian invasions.

Here it is: Jesus Christ is "the Way, the Truth and the Life" (cf. John 14:6). He will not let anyone down and is the best friend of young people. Let Him take hold of you (cf. Philippians 3:12) so that you can become leaders in this great and wondrous adventure, closely bound by love towards God and towards your neighbour (cf. Matthew 22, 37-40). The future is in your hands: your future and the future of the Church and your country. Soon you will be facing great responsibilities. You will be able to fulfil your mission if you prepare for it now, with the help of your family, the Church and educational institutions.
Find your place within the Church and in society, accepting wholeheartedly the tasks that are assigned to you now, both within your family and outside of it. This is the most appropriate way to prepare for the tasks that tomorrow will bring. Always remember that if you attempt to design your life in a manner that contradicts God's intention, you are destined to fail, sooner or later. It is only with God and in God that a person can reach the fulfilment that they crave from the bottom of their heart.
One of your poets wrote: "Felix, qui semper vitae bene computat usum", or "Lucky is the one who always ponders how to put his life to good use" (Marko Marulić, Carmen de doctrina Domini nostri Iesu Christi pendentis in Cruce, v. 77). A decisive role is played by the choice of correct over illusionary values; choosing the real truth instead of half-truths, or perhaps even false truths. Do not trust those who promise to give you easy solutions. Nothing great can be achieved without sacrifice."
Prayer for conversion of Croatian people
Our Lady, our ancestors in the defense of Sinj in the year 1715. by your intercession in prayer in front of your image obtained from God a gift of freedom. Many of their descendants remained thankful to you for the miraculous defense but unfortunately among the people of our nation who were baptised in the name of Jesus Christ there are many who consider themselves his disciples but do not follow his teaching or the will of the Heavenly Father. By their words they dishonor your name, the name of God, the name of Jesus Christ and those of the saints. They commit many crimes and injustices, they are slaves of many internal and external vices. Our Mother, we pray for the mercy of perpetual conversion so that we can pray for the conversion of our compatriots and the whole world that the number of those who will love God with all their hearts, all their minds and all their soul and their neighbours as themselves may increase. What is the sacrament of baptism, what do we become by it and what are the visible signs?
By the sacrament of baptism we receive a new life of grace - we become children of God and members of the community of faithful - the Church. Baptism is a visible sign of our likeness to Jesus Christ. Visible sign of baptism is pouring of the water and proclaiming the words: N. I baptise you in the name of the Father, of the Son and the Holy Spirit.
Who, when and where can be baptised by the Church?
The Church gives baptism to children or adults at any time but especially on Easter night vigil when resurrection of the Christ is celebrated. Regularly a child is baptised in the first weeks of life, general rule is that baptisms are celebrated in parish churches during mass.
Who can validly baptise?
In the Church a bishop, a priest and a deacon can validly baptise but in cases of mortal danger any person can baptise if he intends to do what the Church does at baptism: to say the formula of baptism correctly and to pour clean water on the forehead of the person being baptised (eg. a nurse in the hospital if a child is in immediate mortal danger).
What are the fruits of baptism?
The greatest fruit of baptism is the forgiving of the original sin and all personal sins (if the baptised person is an adult) and birth for a new life in which a person becomes an adoptive child of God, a temple of the Holy Spirit. In that way a baptised person is joined with the Church, a mystical body of Christ. Baptism gives our souls an inereseable seal, therefore baptism cannot be repeated.
Can a person be saved without baptism?
All people who, encouraged by the grace of God, although are not familiar with the church are honestly seeking God and are trying to do His will by following the voice of their conscience can be saved even if they are not baptised. And concerning children who died without baptism, the Church invites us to have faith in God’s mercy and to pray for their salvation.
Abba is an aramaic word. Jesus uses it regularly in his communication with God and Father. Especially touching is the acclamation ‘Abba, father!’ in the telling of his passion while in Getsemani Jesus lives through mortal anxiety. Jesus in despair and abandonment surrenders himself to God with absolute confidence. He calls him, and he is, ‘Abba’, ‘Dad’, the only foundation of his life. That’s why he is the true Son. This Jesus’ confidence in Fathers love, with no proof, nevertheless against all proof is healing from the original sin. Adam didn’t trust God and he hid from him.
New Adam, Christ, from the abyss of death surrenders himself to God the Father with confidence. In Jesus everybody, from every place of being lost can turn to God as a Father. Jesus, while making himself a brother of all, reveals himself as a Son, the only one who lives the Father’s love. We are at the center of Christian faith. Word ‘Abba’ reveals all mystery of God. In the one love he names the Son and expresses the Father. Word ‘Abba’ reveals a confidential relationship with God. It presumes consciousness of sonship and the experience that we can be in the same house with God because the Holy Spirit in us, God’s life, exclaims ‘Abba, Father’ thus giving us a dignity of sons in Son. That Spirit of adoption means freedom in front of all other forms of false submission.
‘Abba’ as an exclamation is a favorite prayer in christian tradition. Jesus taught us that we shall call no one on this earth ‘father’ because our Father is in heaven. Father is the source of life and he is one. We are all sons. Brothers and sisters. The principal sin of us Sons is to pretend to fathers place. That is the original sin against the Father that, since Adam, prevents us from accepting ourselves as sons and daughters and others as our brothers and sisters. That is the source of all our evil and it destroys our essence as sons in Son. The only Father, who makes his love affect the good and the wicked is the Father of Mercy. He is not a father adversary as the Enemy portrays him but a Father who gives everything to Son, i.e. himself. He is not law but freedom, not governance but love, not possession but a gift.
By recognising God as our Father we become aware of our sonship and of us being brothers and sisters. We will truly be blessed if we relate to our brothers and sisters, regardless of their origin, starting from the recognition of God’s fatherhood.
On the east side of Dugopolje, in the hamlet of Kute, is the church of St. Roch. It is a single-nave building with a square apse. It is assumed that it was built at the beginning of the 19th century, on the site of an older demolished church from the second half of the 18th century, probably after 1783 when the plague from Kotlenice descended to Dugopolje. So the church was built on the east side of the village towards Kotlenice, which followed the religious logic, because St. Rocco is an essential protector against infectious diseases. In the apse is a stone altar from the end of the 19th century, and on the altar is a wooden statue of St. Roch. In addition to St. Roch, in this church are also worshiped - Our Lady of Health and St. Anthony. The church was thoroughly renovated during the pastorate of parish priest Ljubo Bodrožić in 1983.

Ancient Salona or Colonia Martia Iulia Salona, as it was called during antiquity, was the capital of the Roman province of Dalmatia. It was formed along the mouth of the river Jadro and the protected sea bay at the foot of the hill Kozjak. Before the arrival of the Italics and Romans, local tribe of Delmati and Greek merchants lived there. Due to its favourable strategic position in the central part of the Adriatic, on the way to the Dalmatian hinterland and inland, this Dalmatian port became interesting to Roman merchants and the army. The name of the settlement of Salona was first mentioned in literary sources in 119 BC when the Roman general Cecilia Metel spent the winter there with the army. In the civil war between Caesar and Pompey, Salona sided with Caesar, which significantly influenced its development and gained the status of a colony.
The size, prosperity and splendour of the ancient metropolis of Salona is evidenced by the following description: 'The city has an irregular elongated shape, and in its centre is the oldest trapezoidal core (Urbs vetus, antiqua or graeca), surrounded by walls, of which the eastern part with a monumental city gate (Porta Caesarea), probably from the August period. There were spas, a forum, a capitol, a manor and a theatre. When that part became narrow, the city expanded beyond the original walls (urbs orientalis and urbs occidentalis), and new ramparts were erected.'
Jelena, queen of the Croatian kingdom at the end of the 10th century, wife of King Mihajlo Krešimir II who was killed in the war. Instead of the minor heir to the throne Stjepan Držislav, she ruled the Kingdom of Croatia as a regent in the 970s. Like any monarch, she became the protector of her subjects, and as she herself was a widow, she was proclaimed the protector of widows and orphans. As a sign of gratitude for her kindness and protection, they named her Jelena the Great.
She had two ancient churches built on the river island in Solin, the Church of the Blessed Virgin Mary in which Croatian kings were crowned and a little further north, the Church of St. Stephen in which the kings were buried. The construction of the Mary’s Shrine, the oldest in Croatia, also began here. Queen Jelena died in 976, and was also buried on this islet, next to her husband King Mihajlo Krešimir II. Her remains were found during the excavations in the late 19th century, in a sarcophagus with an epitaph testifying to her royal role.

With its short course, it fertilizes and brings life to this area, feeding, in addition to Solin, the city of Split, Kaštela, Trogir and surrounding places. In Solin, the river Jadro is called "Solinska Rika", and due to its significance and events from old Croatian history, it is often called "Croatian Jordan".
Due to the life and development of the endemic subspecies Mekousna trout (Salmothymus obtusirostris salonitana), the upper course of the river was declared a special ichthyological reserve in 1984. The area of this ichthyological reserve is approximately 78,000 m2, and it represents the watercourse of the river Jadro from the source to the Uvodić bridge.
Ancient people also knew about the values of the river Jadro. Even the ancient Illyrians built houses next to its riverbed and drank water that was not far away. It strengthened them when they went to war against the Romans, and the Romans, thanks to its water, built the largest city on this side of the Adriatic Sea.
The river Jadro is the source of life in the whole of Dalmatia. Due to this source in the protected bay Salona and Diocletian's Palace developed, to which an ancient aqueduct leads from the source area, which still supplies about 300,000 inhabitants. Solin, but also the population of the agglomeration has lost contact with Jadro, so it is poorly presented to tourists, although in itself, and especially its protected parts and cultural heritage that has developed along 4.2 km, is a strong but still untapped potential.

It was built according to the conceptual design of the architect Viktor Vreček, who won the competition eleven years ago. It is 45 meters long, 34 meters wide, about fifteen meters high, covers an area of 1,100 square meters with about 650 seats, has seven entrances, three sacristies, and even a space for recording religious celebrations.
The first thing that catches the eye on the oval building is the huge portal, fifteen meters high, five wide, at the base of which are large gates, all made of metal, covered with "rays" denoting the gifts of the Holy Spirit. The spacious mosaics and frescoes covering the walls were designed by one of the world's most famous sacral artists, the Jesuit Father Marko Rupnik, who has been decorating the walls for several weeks with a team of 27 people from his italian "Aletti Centre".
All the work on the basilica is imbued with prayer and communion, there is deep symbolism in everything, and everything makes sense. There are numerous mosaics on the walls, in the centre of which is Jesus Christ Pantocrator (Greek: Almighty), and on the side are Our Lady and St. John the Baptist. Then it is surrounded by St. Joseph, St. Peter and St. Paul, the evangelists Matthew, Mark, Luke and John, the Salonitan martyrs and the patron saints of Split, St. Dujam and St. Staš, St. Jeronim Dalmatian, St. Lucia, St. Cecilia, St. John Zlatousti, St. Gregory of Nazianzus, St. Francis of Assisi, St. Clare, St. Teresa - Benedicta of the Cross, St. John Paul II, St. Mother Teresa, St. Nikola Tavelić, St. Marko Križevčanin, St. Leopold Mandić, Blessed Ozana Kotorska, Blessed Marija Propetog Isusa Petković and Blessed Ivan Merz.
The selection of saints around Pantocrator represents the general Croatian, and local Dalmatian Church. Dalmatia is also represented by a ‘bukarica’ a traditional 'chalice' made by Father Rupnik on a mosaic, you will find it - if you take a closer look - near St. Leopold Mandic.

Mountain massif in the Split-Dalmatia County, which divides the Adriatic Sea from Zagora, and is located in the areas of towns of Makarska and Vrgorac, and surrounding municipalities. It stretches along the Adriatic coast from the Dubci pass to the Baćina lakes, and the northeastern border is part of the A1 motorway section. The highest peak of the mountain is St. Jure, 1762 m high, to which the 23 km long Biokovo road leads. The northern part of the mountain Biokovo was declared a Nature Park in 1981. The new Sky Promenade - Skywalk Biokovo is located in the southwestern part of the Nature Park, at an altitude of 1228 m, and was opened in July 2020.
Coastal mountain in central Dalmatia. It stretches in a direction parallel to the sea coastline from Split and the Klis pass in the northwest, all the way to the river Cetina in the southeast. The mountain is of limestone composition, with a large number of pits and caves. It is mostly bare or with low vegetation. There are bauxite deposits in Mosor. The highest mountain peak is Veliki Kabal (1339 m). To the southwest, the famous cave Vranjača is situated.
Dinara is a mountain in the Dinaric Mountain Range, which separates the Field of Livno from the Field of Sinj, and forms the natural border between Bosnia and Herzegovina with Croatia. It stretches in a northwest-southeast direction for 84 km. The highest peak of the Dinara massif, Troglav (1913 m) is located in Herzegovina. The peak Sinjal or Dinara (1831 m) is the highest mountain point in Croatia. On February 5, 2021, the Dinara Nature Park was declared as the twelfth Nature Park of the Republic of Croatia.
A mountain located on the border of Croatia with Bosnia and Herzegovina, between Sinj in Zagora and Livno in Završje. The entire peak ridge with the highest peaks is located in Herzegovina, and far from the border on the Croatian side, Divov brig (1333 m) and Glavaš (1308 m) stand out. Kamešnica abounds in geo-tectonic phenomena such as sinkholes, caves, ditches and plateaus, and is attractive for hiking in the spring and autumn months. Located in the heart of the Dalmatian hinterland, the town on the Cetina has a rich cultural and historical heritage. Since the 7th century Sinj has been the scene of great battles. In the memory of the most important one, against the Ottoman Empire in August 1715, every first Sunday in August is held the famous Sinjska Alka, a knightly equestrian competition of spearmen (Alkars’) on horseback at the racecourse.
The reason why thousands of pilgrims from all over the world come to Sinj in mid-August, and especially on the feast of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary on August 15, is the pilgrimage to Our Lady of Sinj, which provides comfort, hope and faith. Our Lady is described as a Queen of heaven and earth, placed on the Throne of heaven. Then the pilgrims pray for Our Lady's intercession, and put their lives in protection of her goodness, love and mercy.
The Sinj Regiment believes that the most glorious victory in August 1715 was the result of Our Lady's miraculous intercession, because her renowned holy Painting was kept in the fortress of the Old Town during the battle. The main town square is dominated by the church and shrine of the Miraculous Lady of Sinj, magnificent, framed by a relief bronze door of the academic sculptor Stipe Sikirica, erected in 1987.
Monument to the civil victims of fascism from 1943 along the route of the former Sinj Ferata at the Kukuzovac checkpoint. On September 22nd, 2013 a memorial for 67 innocent civilian victims, who were killed on September 24, 1943 by members of the 7th SS Division Prinz Eugen, was blessed and unveiled. Its main and ideological design is a work by a young artist Jelena Mastelić from the settlement of Brnaze. It was built of 68 stone vases, given by the families of victims from their old houses, from where innocent civilians were taken to be executed seventy years ago.
The two plaques are engraved with text about the place and circumstances of the death and the names of all 67 victims. On the way to Split, the German killers executed 15 locals from the hamlet of Bučani in the village of Vojnić on September 23, without any immediate cause. The bloody feast of the SS division continued the next day when they killed 41 locals from Košute and another civilian from Glavica who happened to be with relatives in that village, then 7 locals from Turjaci, 17 locals from Brnaze and the Franciscan priest Rafo Kalinić.
Karst field located in Dalmatian Zagora. It covers 64 km² of fertile land. It lies at the foot of Sinj, on both sides of the Cetina river, and is the largest field in Zagora. It is located between 295 and 301 m above sea level. A number of settlements surround the field of Sinj. The field has been previously flooded during the winter period. When the waters receded in the springtime, herds of cattle and other livestock used to be seen grazing in the vast field. Today there is no grazing, and the Sinj field is sown with corn and wheat.
In Stepinčeva Street you can see the beautiful parish church of St. Michael the Archangel, built in 1938. The adjective 'new' has been added to it because the old church of the same name is right next to it. This magnificent three-nave building made of stone is 35 meters long, 19 meters wide and 15 meters high, while the bell towers are 33 meters high. The church is built of carved white stone in the shape of a Latin cross, and at the front is an atrium with a large triumphal arch reminiscent of the Kotor Cathedral of St. Tryphon. At the top there are two bell towers with stone final pyramids. Architect Emilio Ciciliani is responsible for this look. The church is dedicated to St. Michael the Archangel, and the co-patron is St. Jerome.
Right next to the new church stands proudly the old church of the same name, more precisely, it is located in the local cemetery in Dugopolje. The church was thoroughly renovated in 1997 thanks to the Municipality of Dugopolje and various donors. Archaeological excavations were carried out at that time and it was established that the church had been upgraded several times. The present dimensions of the church were given in 1768, and there were internal renovations in 1829 as well. When the first church was built on that site cannot be said with certainty. Some data say that this could be before the arrival of the Ottomans in the Dalmatian hinterland, while some cartographers from the second half of the 16th century in their drawings named Dugopolje - С. Michel ”or“ S. Michiel. The church was repaired, and perhaps rebuilt in 1700, that year was carved above the door.

Over the years, it was one of the passing points of a large number of pilgrims from Split, Solin and surrounding places on the way to Sinj, in order to celebrate the Feast of the Assumption on August 15. As well it served as one of the mandatory points of pilgrimage for believers from Sinj and Cetina region to Solin Marian shrine of Our Lady of the Island, in order to celebrate other feast of Our Lady, which is celebrated on September 8, when it is also the day of the town of Solin.
In addition to the already built Split station during the construction of the Split-Sinj railway, 5 stations and 3 stops were built. The stations were: Vranjic-Solin, Klis, Dugopolje, Dicmo, Sinj, and the stops Mravinci, Klis-Kosa and Prosik. A few years later, 3 more stops were built: Koprivno, Kukuzovac and Kopilica. All these stations began with project construction in 1900. to be all mostly completed by the spring of 1903.
The buildings at the stations in Solin and Dugopolje were one-storey, while those in Klis and Sinj were two-storey. The rooms on the ground floor served as a ticket office, traffic controller's office and living space, while on the upper floors there were apartments for railway employees.
Along the road Dugopolje - Klis - Kurtovići there is a chapel of Our Lady at the bottom of the field. It is dedicated to Our Lady's visit, and was built in 1923 instead of the older chapel, which used to be located to the east, much closer to Dugopolje field, as its name suggests. It is 4.20 meters long and 3.50 meters wide. Not far from this chapel there is one very interesting thing - the stećak tombstones of a medieval cemetery that still look impressive today, and were moved here from the Kapela site during the construction of the A1 motorway. The feast of Our Lady at the bottom of the field is celebrated in Dugopolje every year in June.
It was built at the time of the parish priest Bartol Ganza in 1934, and his assistant Clement Tadin, the foreman. The solemn laying and blessing of the foundation stone for the construction was on March 16, 1934 by the Bishop of Split, Kvirin Klement Bonefačić. According to the records in the parish chronicle, among the large crowd of believers who took part in the solemn blessing of the cornerstone, the then unknown priest was especially noticeable, who knelt on the grass throughout the ceremony. Two months after that event, the priest became the archbishop of Zagreb. It was Aloysius Stepinac, today the acclaimed beatified Croatian martyr.
The old church of St. James was located in the cemetery. The year of its construction is not known, but it is known that it was described by the Archbishop of Split Stjepan Cupilli in a report from 1709 when he visited the parish.
The new church was built of hewn stone with three naves in the neo-Romanesque style, but with an unusual and imposing bell tower on the facade. The bell tower was upgraded in 1994 by 4.26 meters, and the cross on the bell tower is 1.80 meters high. On that occasion, four new bells were installed in the bell tower, made in Innsbruck (Austria) at the Grassmayer company with a total weight of 1,650 kg.
The church, 35 meters long and 17 meters wide, was designed by architect Emilio Ciciliani. The main altar is in a semicircular apse on which are statues of St. James and St. Anne. Behind the altar are two sacristies. Church naves are separated by pillars and arches. In the side aisles are the altars of the Holy Heart of Christ and St. Anne with statues.
The church was renovated in 1969, 1984, and 1993-1999. In front of the old main altar, a new altar was placed, and on the choir above the main door, a new Hefer organ was placed in 1998, procured by the contributions of faithful believers.

The path to Our Lady of Sinj is a pilgrimage route that, from several directions, has been used for centuries to walk to the largest Marian shrine in southern Croatia. Every year, on the eve of the Feast of the Assumption, on the nights between August 8 and 15, thousands of pilgrims, especially young people, go on a pilgrimage to the town of Sinj, and on the 15th of August, a central religious ceremony is held. Prayer for the freedom of evil anger
Dear our Lady, my frequent anger burdens me. Because of anger towards others I am also angry at myself. I know that the Holy Scripture says we can be angry but to withhold from doing evil in anger (Eph 4, 26) Jesus was also angry but he did not sin. Intercede for me, Our Lady, so that in anger I may not do any evil. So that in conflits I do not fight against others but for better relationships. So that through conflicts I may get to know better myself and others, that I may realise that the true reason of my anger is often within me and the others are just a cause, so that I may know the real reasons and remove them. Gentle Virgin, may your Son release me from the bondage of anger and keep me from evil that I might do in anger. Thank you Our Lady of Sinj! Amen. Mother of Jesus, Blessed Virgin Mary has already experienced the resurrection of the body. To us this will happen on Judgement Day. Just like Jesus, Mary is also with us not just with soul (like saints) but also in body which has easterlike, spiritual qualities. That’s why she is in a different, more immediate way present among us than saints. She is, at last, because of her immaculate conception, because of being the Mother of God, because of her virginity and mediatory concern for us far more present among us. She is given to us to be our mother and therefore her special motherly presence is being fulfilled. Pilgrimage sites all around the world are a witness to this. Mary has an immense power that God gave her through her Son Jesus. She loves us endlessly, she understands us, she empathises, she longs for us, she takes care of us. It is a miraculous reality, a wonderful opportunity to touch the heavenly matters. Many saints give witness to how Mary appeared to them and talked to them. Pilgrimage sites are full of her tangible presence. She calls us to her so that she could, like a mother, take our hands and take us to Jesus. She gives us a new birth, she grants us heeling and she fills us with her Spirit.

Prayer for deliverance of hate
Mother of Christ Jesus, you were painfully stricken by the evil of hate towards your Son. He suffered because people enslaved by hate didn’t let themselves be freed. Now he waits with love for people to accept his offer of freedom. He loved those who persecuted him and he did good to those who hated him. He wanted and still wants to save everyone. Our Lady of Sinj, grant me the grace so that my hate towards those who do evil to me turns into compassion. They are really worthy of pity nevertheless if they are aware of their deeds or not. Evil is always evil. Let me together with you pray for their conversion and eternal salvation. Keep me so that I may not do any evil deed from the feeling of hate. In the years of the first Roman emperors, Salona became a meeting place for merchants from all over the ancient world. The city flourished and expanded in the 2nd and 3rd century, especially for the emperor Diocletian, who built his palace near it, and the city was given the honorary title of Valeria (imperial gentile name), so it was called Colonia Martia Iulia Valeria Salona Felix. According to some sources, the city could have between 20 and 30 thousand inhabitants at the peak of its power. In the north-western part of the city, connected by ramparts, was a monumental amphitheatre, originally on three floors and today preserved only at the ground level. Outside the city walls, around the relics of the Salonitan martyrs, Christian cemeteries were built, within which, as early as 4th century, churches were built above the graves of martyrs (localities: Manastirine - the tomb of St. Domnius, Kapljuč - the basilica of the five martyrs, Marusinac - the mausoleum of St. Anastasia).
After the great migration of the people, Croats settled in the part of the demolished and abandoned Salona. On Our Lady's Island and along the tributaries of the Jadro river Croatian rulers have erected new church buildings and created the centre of Croatian Solin. In 614, Salona was destroyed by the Avars and Slavs, and the population took refuge in Diocletian's Palace. The new inhabitants settled outside the ruins of the ancient city, to the east along the river Jadro.
The settlement of Dugopolje is located along the spacious karst field of the same name, below the northern slopes of the Mosor mountain. It is a small and dynamic place in the lobby of the Dalmatian hinterland, 15 km from the city of Split, the county center and the largest city on the Croatian coast. Dugopolje has an excellent geo-traffic position, because it is located at the intersection of the state highway A1 Zagreb-Split-Dubrovnik, which connects the north and south of Croatia, and the county highway D1 Split-Sinj, which connects the coast and the interior of Central Dalmatia. So it is located in an ideal geo-traffic location for day trips and short visits to the pearls of the Adriatic and the Dalmatian hinterland. It takes only 15 minutes by car to reach the city of Split and the surrounding places on the coast, while the attractions of the Dalmatian hinterland are 15 minutes to an hour away.
The municipality of Dugopolje was founded in 1997, consists of the settlements of Dugopolje, Koprivno, Kotlenice and Liska, and occupies an area of 63.5 km2 with an area of slightly less than 4,000 inhabitants.
Tourist activity in the area of the municipality of Dugopolje is at the very beginning, but it has great potential in active and sports tourism. The beauties of this area are manifested through the untouched nature of the northern slopes of the Mosor mountain and the famous Vranjača cave in the settlement of Kotlenice - a protected geomorphological monument of nature. Cycling, trekking and hiking are just some of the activities you can do in this part of Dalmatia. Football stadium SC "Croatian Knights" is a place of numerous preparations, tournaments, academies and football schools of domestic and foreign clubs.
Feast of the patron saint of the municipality of Dugopolje and the celebration of "Days of St. Michael and Jerome” are held every year on the 29th and 30th of September, with a rich religious, cultural, entertainment and gastronomic program.

‘My God, my God, why have you forsaken me!’ - cried your Son, crucified. His sense of anguish and loneliness on the cross tore your motherly heart. Our Lady of Sinj, you also hear my cry from the cross of life. You know the anguish that surrounds me because of those dear to me who bear their life crosses. Our Lady, together with Christ you took the cross as Fathers will for the salvation of men. Let me pray with Christ: ‘My Father, if it is possible, let this cup pass from me; yet, not as I will, but as you will.’ Grant me faith that I am and everybody I love is in the hand of the Father and that our paths through sufferings lead to Christ’s cross that ends with resurrection. Our Lady of Sinj, I am so confused and so disturbed that I cannot even say the true state of my soul and body. I feel pressured by everyday commitments so that I may fulfill set goals. I admit, Our Lady, that I didn’t determine those goals together with you nor with God. Now I am overwhelmed by anxious troubles. Dear Our Lady, intercede for me the wisdom of the Holy Spirit that I may see clearly what am I to do. Intercede for me so that Jesus’ words ‘Be not afraid! I am with you! can reach my heart. Strengthen my trust in heavenly father so that I can boldly say: ‘Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me. Thank you Our Lady of Sinj! St Roch lived in the 13th century, he was born in South France by pious parents who gave him christian upbringing and values, during his lifetime he was helping those affected by plague and later also himself died of plague. Many churches and chapels are consecrated to St Roch and he is venerated as a protector from diseases.

Angels are, by catholic teaching, personal, from God created beings, who ‘always look upon the face of heavenly Father’ (Mt 18, 10) and are immediate witnesses of His great deeds and they propagate his glory (in greek word angelos means ‘a messenger’). In contrast to men, angels are not bound to the body, they are pure spirits and they possess greater power over matter than humans and greater insight. Angels can be separated into 9 categories. Michael, Gabriel and Raphael belong to the category of archangels.
The earliest reverence of archangel Michael is found in the 4th century. Michael is in Scripture at the beginning of God’s creation, he is a leader and a victor in the fight against the fallen angels who were led by Lucifer. Generally Michael is revered as defender and protector of faith and the Church.
Saint Michael the Archangel, defend us in battle. Be our protection against the wickedness and snares of the devil; May God rebuke him, we humbly pray; And do thou, O Prince of the Heavenly Host, by the power of God, thrust into hell Satan and all evil spirits who wander through the world for the ruin of souls. Amen
The apse, the triumphal arch and parts of the longitudinal walls of the former nave have been preserved from the old church. Expanded with two narrow side naves, the church received its final basilica shape, highlighted in its wide flat facade characterized by simple Neo-Renaissance architectural forms. The outer length of the church from the facade to the end of the apse is 32.3 m, and the greatest width is 17.8 m.
The painting of the interior of the church was entrusted to the painter from Solin, Vjekoslav Parać. The frescoes he made represent a special artistic value of the church and are painted on the wall above the triumphal arch as well as on the walls above the arches, which separate the main from the side naves. These three large frescoes represent one artistic unit, specifically a fresco whose total length on the north, south and east walls is 40 m, while its height is 6.10 m. It is the largest painting of its kind created in Dalmatia. Parać's entire painting work in the church lasted intermittently for about fifteen months from 1938 to 1939.
Near the centre of Varoš rises the Klis parish church dedicated to the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary. During its centuries-long existence, its shape, appearance and even its purpose have changed several times. Due to the lack of historical and archaeological material, it is not possible to determine the time of origin and construction of the first church at this place. And it is not known whether there was an early Christian church here before.
As a pre-Romanesque church, it probably existed as early as the middle of the 9th century, during the time of the Croatian dukes Mislav and Trpimir, who built, renovated and donated other churches in the vicinity of their royal estate in Klis.
The church was first mentioned in 1333, when a peace was signed between lord Nelipac and lord Mladin Šubić III, the then master of Klis. In 1338, Mladin's sister Jelena married the Bosnian prince Vladislav Kotromanić in this church. From this marriage was born the future Bosnian king Stjepan Tvrtko I, later lord of Klis.
When the Ottomans conquered Klis, the church of Our Lady in Varoš was turned into a mosque. After their departure, the former mosque in Varoš in 1648 became a church again and was soon expanded. At that time it was of a smaller longitudinal shape, with an apse to the east, a gabled roof and a bell tower on a pediment.
Real rest consists of healing of the body and soul. Real rest is if you take down the burden from your conscience, if you surrender your guilt into the hands of the Maker, if you make peace with others, if you fill your soul with new thoughts, strong ideas, new and positive perspectives, love and trust towards new people and deep decisions. Nothing will give you more rest than the peace in which you have rediscovered the meaning of life and a way to live in a new and more convincing way: the community of marriage, family, relatives, neighbourhood and your city. Nothing will give you rest like peace in which you will find new perspectives of your work, new ideas on which you can build your life, new joy’s and new deep peace in which you can marvel at art and live culture. If you lean into prayer and discover the presence of the living God you can always be rested.

Rosary is a very widespread prayer in Catholic Church. By praying the rosary a christian lives through all the mysteries of Christ’s redemption: incarnation, death and resurrection. By praying the rosary, a faithful surrenders to Mary, the Mother of God, for leadership through the moments of Christ’s life on earth. That’s why it is good to pray that prayer with all the depth of our being, to believe that the Blessed Virgin Mary is with us because Jesus gave her to us as a mother. To start from the day of the Annunciation, then go together with Mary to visit Elisabeth into the hills of Judea, then sit next to the cradle in Bethlehem and to marvel at the mystery of God’s coming to us in human flesh. After that to go to the temple in Jerusalem and finnish the first part of the rosary with a twelve year old Jesus on his way from the temple back to Nazareth. In the second part of the rosary we can stand firmly with Mary and solemnly go to Getseman,i to Pilates court all the way to Calvary and Jesus’ death. In the third part of the rosary we go to the empty tomb and believe that the risen Jesus is with us, then go to Bethany where the Ascension happened and come back to the hall of Pentecost and pray with Mary that on us and upon the whole Church the same power of the Holy Spirit my come that then came upon those gathered there. Then we turn to Mary and congratulate her for already being risen and surrender at last ourselves so that she may not only be the Queen of heavens and earth but also the Queen of our freedom, take her responsibly and freely as our mother.

St Jerome was born in 340. in Dalmatia. He went to school in Rome and was baptised there. He took to ascet life, went to the East and there was ordained a priest. He came back to Rome and was a secretary to pope Damasus and there he started to translate the Holy Scripture into latin. That translation is called Vulgate. He was a promoter of a monastic life and he spent a lot of his years in Bethlehem. He wrote many literary works, especially on the Holy Scripture. He died in Bethlehem in 420.

Mary, Mother of good counsel, pray so that we may have open ears and teachable hearts in every moment when brothers in faith warn us because of our strayings and because of our sins. Amen.
Our Lady of Health or Our Lady of Prisoje is one of the oldest churches in the parish of Dicmo, built at the end of the 17th century on three occasions. It has been expanded and upgraded, externally and internally. The Archbishop of Split and Makarska, Marin Barišić, blessed the last renovation of the chapel in 2005. Inside, a new altar has been erected with the monogram Ave Maria with Our Lady's crown, designed by Don Ante Šošić. Church utensils have also been restored, such as the chalice dating from 1604.

Viewpoint Križice from which one can see almost the entire Dicmo field. The frame of the field itself consists of the hills: Orlovača (542 m), Visoka (892 m) and Trapošnik (666 m), so this dry karst field is closed. Its soil is a land of "crljenica", quite cracked in the hot summer days, but enough for lush vineyards.
Field (and a settlement of the same name) placed in the karst of Dalmatian Zagora in the hinterland of Split; 15 km long, up to 2.5 km wide. It lies at an altitude of 315 to 319 m, and covers 35 km². The road Split - Sinj - Livno (BiH) passes through the field.
According to archeological findings, Dicmo field has been inhabited since the time of the Illyrian settlements in ancient times, and its population has been continuous. Remains of a small Roman-Illyrian settlement were found here. At the site of the present Dicmo in Roman times was the tenth milestone (a thousand steps) from the road Salona directed to Muć.
It was first mentioned in the second half of the 7th century, called Dicinum. The name of the field itself comes from the Latin word decima (ten) - for the distance on the Roman road that led from Salona, and near Dicmo it branched in two directions: for the ancient Aequum (Čitluk) and Pons Tiluri (Trilj).
As an Ethno-agro park, Stella Croatica is located in the municipality of Klis, where for many years, with its rich cultural and gastronomic offer attracts foreign and domestic tourists. Behind the Stella Croatica brand is the Dabelić family, which has been growing olives and figs for generations, producing olive oil, wine and traditional delicacies. They have recently opened the Olive Museum, a unique project in the whole of Dalmatia, and they are recognizable for their traditional Dalmatian desserts such as arancino, traditional tiny cookies and candied almonds.
Klis Fortress lies on the pass between Mosor and Kozjak, on the road Split - Sinj, 9 km northeast of Split. In prehistory, a hillfort settlement, then the late Roman Castrum. It is also mentioned by Constantine Porphyrogenitus, describing the fall of Salona. In the time of Trpimir, in the middle of the 9th century, it was mentioned as a ruling estate (curtis), and it was also the centre of the Old Croatian County (Parathalassia), which stretched from the Trogir area to Poljica. Since the 13th century, it has been in the possession of Croatian feudal lords (Bribir lords). In the first middle of the 13th century, the Croatian nobleman Domald managed to take over Klis, but both times the Šubić’s took it away and returned it to the king's rule. Due to its prominent position, it was a difficult fortress to conquer for a long time. At the end of the 14th century after the death of Tvrtko I, the fortress was again under rule by the Hungarian-Croatian Kings.
Medieval Klis was the seat of the Uskoks, Croatian fighters against the Ottoman and Venetian invasions. With its conquest in 1537, and the heroic defence of the famous Uskok Petar Kružić, the Ottomans managed to come and capture Solin and penetrate through Kaštela, but they never actually managed to capture the city of Split. The remaining Klis Uskoks, after the fall of the fortress, moved to Senj. After the fall, it became the seat of the Ottoman Klis Sandžak (a large part of the Dalmatian hinterland, part of Lika and Krbava). In the Venetian-Ottoman wars (1648) it was conquered by General Leonardo Foscolo and reinforced by new defence systems. After the fall of Venice (1797), Klis belonged to Austria, was under French rule for a short time (1805-1813), and at the end of the 19th century Austria-Hungary abolished its military function.
It bears the title of the oldest Marian shrine in Croatia! Today's parish church dedicated to the Blessed Virgin Mary - Our Lady of the Island, was built in 1880 in the centre of Solin, on a larger island in the delta of the Solin river Jadro, formerly called Salon.
To the south of the church is a landscaped lawn on which thousands and thousands of believers and young people participated in the service of God, during the visit of Pope John Paul II on the 4th of October 1998. On the north side of today's church of Our Lady, under the ground, are the remains of a three-nave church dedicated to St. Stephen. It was built just above the Roman-era building structures that stretched over a larger island in the river delta. It should be considered that the Solin river in ancient times had a completely different course than today, and that it passed through the town itself (the best evidence is the remains of the so-called Hollow Church on the east of Salona).
In addition to the already built Split station during the construction of the Split-Sinj railway, 5 stations and 3 stops were built. The stations were: Vranjic-Solin, Klis, Dugopolje, Dicmo, Sinj, and the stops Mravinci, Klis-Kosa and Prosik.
A few years later, 3 more stops were built: Koprivno, Kukuzovac and Kopilica. All these stations began with project construction in 1900. to be all mostly completed by the spring of 1903. The buildings at the stations in Solin and Dugopolje were one-storey, while those in Klis and Sinj were two-storey. The rooms on the ground floor served as a ticket office, traffic controller's office and living space, while on the upper floors there were apartments for railway employees.
The Dalmatian area is rich in cultural goods from Roman times. Roman road networks were discovered in this area, the origin of which was in Salona, which, along with Diocletian's Palace, is one of the ancient gems of Dalmatia.
In the area of the Municipality of Dicmo there are four Roman roads or tracks, designed by the agile governor (legatus Augusti pro praetore) of the Roman province of Dalmatia - Publius Cornelius Dolabel.
The main Roman road is along the state road D1, and along the route of the former Rera railway. It is a communication that in Roman times was on the route Salona - Klis, Dugopolje - Dicmo - Aequum (Čitluk) - Servitium. The total length of this road is 167 Roman miles or 242 kilometres. Today, there is 10 km of this road in the Dicmo area.
This is an extremely interesting location because within only 50 meters there are three communications - the current road D1, the former route of the famous Rera railway and the main Roman road.
